Sam King's Biography

Sam King, born in (London) Derry, Northern Ireland, raised in Ontario and Prince Edward Island, Canada, and now based in Manchester England (whew, bit of a mouthful!) has been performing and gigging for the past 24 years as a drum kit drummer/percussionist, original singer-songwriter/producer/engineer.

People always ask her how she got into playing the drums, and she’ll tell you it was because she was a social misfit, a new girl in school and found herself with the “rockers”, and hanging around their band. One day the drummer didn’t show up for rehearsal, and asked her if she wanted a go at the drum kit, and low and behold, she could actually play to a degree, everyone was really shocked, and that was the beginning that sparked a career that took her all over the world!

In 1992, Sam King decided to move back to Britain, and to begin her career as a singer/songwriter/producer, and to express vocally what she wanted to say and to produce an album, and to become an independent recording artist. She made a pit stop in love and child rearing, (ditched the love part, and kept the kid!), and went on the establish herself as a singer/producer and drummer, playing at open-air events, radio stations, TV. local clubs and pubs, parties, and open mics, and now finds herself recording the album she always wanted, a little wiser, and living the dream

Sam has played most styles as a drummer including heavy metal, commercial pop, country and western, reggae, blues, rock, funk, hip hop, techno, drums and bass, classical music, and other people’s original music. Sam is currently a drum kit tutor in the Chorlton area, teaching students (beginner and advanced) in their own homes

Sam’s original song writing is a blend of styles, and skills including her drumming, and effects and samples, and just plain acoustic. Most of her lyrical content is about love, life, and liberation, spirituality, affirmation, and experience with matters such as single parenting, and recovery from addiction.

Sam King has many interests, and works her original singer/songwriter career how it suits her, she does around 20 gigs a year, each one with people and places which are to her taste and liking, non smoking, attentive audiences, beautiful surroundings, and everyone left feeling appreciated and valued and inspired.

Sam is available for paying gigs as a drummer of almost any style in most venues.
